Hi, I’m Kelly. And I’m so glad you’re here.
Storytelling as been a passion of mine since childhood. Whether it’s been in the form of a drawing or a video, I approach my work through the lens of telling human-centered stories.
Gaining trust and building relationships with people are important to me. I’ve been able to do that with several communities throughout Ohio and beyond.
My journalism work has been recognized by the Cleveland Press Club, the Great Lakes Emmys and the Society of Professional Journalists.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University in journalism and a minor in nonprofit management. I also have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Youngstown State University in photography and an Assiociate of Science degree from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, also in photography.
I value time with family, friends and my church community. If you see me selling my art at a local market, stop by and say hi.
What I offer -
Multifaceted approach - Through my current role as a multiple media journalist at Ideastream Public Media, I manage multiple stories at a time using various mediums to tell the story. Workflow also consists of weekly video edits for a PBS arts and culture show and a free speech forum where I direct and video edit the weekly show - both airing on PBS.
Community focus - My multimedia work is centered around people and neighborhoods with a focus on nonprofits. My background in international missions, volunteer work at my local church, an internship at Refuge of Hope and starting a 501c3 nonprofit as a young adult has helped shaped my storytelling style.
Story development - I have a lot of ideas - so much that I pitched a video series to the executive team at Ideastream Public Media and received the green light to move forward. Much of that work included months of research, connecting with people and communities and developing the story structure for each episode and the overall arc of the series.
